The obstetric-gynecologic/women’s health nurse practitioner is a registered nurse who has successfully obtained the minimum of a master’s degree from a formal obstetric-gynecologic/women’s health nurse practitioner educational program. This practitioner has acquired special knowledge and skills in health promotion and maintenance, disease prevention, physical and psychosocial assessment, and management of health and illness in the primary care of women. The obstetric-gynecologic/women’s health nurse practitioner provides such care in collaboration with physicians, as well as other members of the health care team.
After completing the education program, the candidate must be licensed by the state in which they plan to practice. Voluntary certification is a process by which a nongovernmental, professional agency confers a credential attesting that an individual has met predetermined standards for specialty practice. Serving as an added credential beyond basic nursing education and licensure, voluntary certification is designed to promote and maintain quality care by nurses who have demonstrated knowledge and the ability to apply that knowledge in specified settings.

I knew I wanted to be a nurse at the young age of 12. Since becoming a nurse, my nursing career has given me the opportunities to work in many different areas of nursing including ICU, an out-patient multi-specialty facility, home health, management, education, student health, a physician-owned private practice, as a partner in a private practice, and now as owner of my own private practice.
All of us here at Pat News Health Care are dedicated to wellness. If we can do anything to make your health care experience better, please just let us know.
